Hosted by Eric Roman, PA-C
Presented by Lyndsey Bassett, PA-C

This Pre-PA Virtual Shadowing session focuses on General Surgery topics, offering students a practical look at how Physician Assistants function in surgical practice across inpatient and operative settings.

During this 1-hour live session, students will explore common general surgery conditions through case-based discussion. Topics may include abdominal pain presentations, surgical consult workflows, perioperative management, and post-operative care. Emphasis is placed on understanding how PAs evaluate patients, assist in decision-making, collaborate with surgeons, and manage patient care before and after procedures.

Students will also gain insight into:

  • The day-to-day responsibilities of a General Surgery PA

  • Inpatient rounding and consult workflows

  • Operating room involvement and first-assist roles

  • Managing surgical complications and post-operative follow-up

  • The balance between clinic, inpatient care, and procedural work

This session is ideal for Pre-PA students interested in surgery, acute care, hospital medicine, or procedural specialties, and provides meaningful exposure to how surgical teams function in real-world settings.

No prior surgical knowledge is required. The session is taught at a Pre-PA–appropriate level with interactive Q&A throughout.
